Wow, this is one hell of a collection.  Coming soon to your gaming machine of choice (PS2, Xbox or PC), this package of retro classics is gonna keep me up for more than a few nights.  Can’t wait to put Elevator Action, New Zealand Story and Operation Wolf through their paces again!

b3ta are having a bit of a retro-gaming theme at the moment.

Remember the keyboard vs. joystick wars with Daley Thompson?

Really brings back the memories…

Fantastic interview (circa 1984) with the coder of ‘Harrier Attack‘ for the Speecy.

I remember wasting far too many hours on that game - which was apparently very successful at the time:

The version which Richardson wrote in a record-breaking two-and-a-half weeks soon out-sold the original - more than 17,000 copies so far compared to 10,000 for the Oric version.

Mr Richardson also offers this nugget of advice for all you budding coders out there:

[Richardson]…says there is no secret to creating good computer graphics. “All you need is loads and loads of graph paper,”

This is why we have RetroLust.

While it’s not the same as having the real thing (and we really do love the touchy-feelyness of The Real Thing), it’s worth spending an hour or 10 getting lost in the games over at RetroSpec.  Some fantastic remakes of old Speccy games.  Is it me, or were games much harder back then?!

Yikes.  Amongst the box of games that came with the ST was this beauty.

Now there’s something you don’t see anymore - game covers drawn in coloured pencil by a 14 year old :)  Boy, do I miss those days… It’s all too whizzbang now.  Bring back hand-drawn box-art!

The artist’s name is on the front, if you look closely.  Good work Mr Roger Pearse!

The back blurb informs us that it’s “So Real It’s Frightening”.  Excellent.

My Atari 1040 STE arrived. Sweet. Gotta love ebay.

I used to dream about owning one of these babies. My mod’ed 520STFM (with hand-soldered memory upgrade and replacement double sided drive, new slot made with a hack-saw) was sweet, but this is the real thing. Stereo audio output too.

Can’t wait to get Xenon2 up on the big screen. Photos, screenshots and reviews to follow…
